Eating Out Locally
- The Grey Horse InnTraditional pub run by Paul and Jane Ng, the Grey Horse (known locally as “Brow’s” after Mrs. Brow who ran it for decades) offers one of Edinburgh’s finest arrays of real ale and superb Chinese food in the adjoining restaurant. Regular live music
- The Riccarton InnA friendly pub/restaurant on the A70 on the way into Edinburgh - good food and a decent array of beers on offer. Occasional live music.
- The Kinleith Arms/MillAlways a very decent pub and restaurant offering traditional pub grub, the Kinleith has undergone a renovation and now styles itself Kinleith Mill. Easy to find n the way into Edinburgh on the A70
- TannersNamed after the tanneries that populated the Water of Leith many years ago, Tanners offers good pub grub, a decent selection of beers and occasional live music, especially on a Friday night.
- The Bridge Inn, RathoWith a superb setting on the banks of The Union Canal this is certainly a location for fine dining or a quiet glass of wine where you can watch the canal boats. Definitely recommended.
- The Sky KitchenChinese Restaurant on the B7015 next to car wash, opposite the garden centre. Excellent food, generous portions it’s ideal for sit-in or take-away and they deliver to Leyden Road for an extra couple of quid. 01506 885115. SatNav EH53 0ET; GPS 55.897850, -3.452138
- The Sapphire Chinese RestaurantUnit 2&3, Bankton Centre, Murieston East Rd, Livingston EH54 9DA. Our favourite in the area, as good as the best in Edinburgh, a wee bit of a drive into Livingston but well worth it. Take-away always busy (a good sign) but you can almost always get a table
- The Bay Leaf Indian RestaurantOur favourite but a bit of a drive to Uphall. A huge restaurant, you’re guaranteed a table and their mid-week buffet is sensational value. Nice folk and an interesting menu – you can order a take-away on line.
- Harburn Golf ClubJust a few miles up the road, Harburn's a mature golf course dating back to the early 30s. They have a fine bar and restaurant here and it's a good day's blend with the Five Sisters Zoo.
- The Marmaris Inn, KirknewtonA couple of miles away in Kirknewton, its not really an inn, just a chippy that does fish & chips, kebabs and pizzas but it's pretty good. Try a Chicken Wrap with double chicken, it's enough for two with a bag of chips. Don't bother with the pub next door.
